Installing the DNS2Go Windows Client

Overview
The DNS2Go Windows client allows your computer or internal server to maintain an active DNS update connection with the DNS2Go service. This ensures your hostname always resolves to your current IP address, even when using a dynamic Internet connection.
System Requirements
- Windows 10, 11, Server 2016, 2019, or 2022
- Administrator privileges for installation
- Active DNS2Go account and hostname
- Internet connection
1. Download the DNS2Go Client
- Visit the official DNS2Go downloads page:
https://www.dns2go.com/downloads
- Download the Windows Client Installer (.exe file).
2. Run the Installer
- Right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator.
- Accept the license agreement when prompted.
- Select the installation directory (default is recommended).
- Click Install to complete setup.
3. Launch and Configure the Client
Once installed:
- Open the DNS2Go client from the Start Menu.
- Under the Registration Tab enter in you're Domain Name and Registration Key
- Click Apply to save your configuration.
4. Verify the Connection
- The status window should show Connected.
- Your external IP should display in the main dashboard.
- Your hostname should resolve to your current IP.
5. Windows Service Mode (Optional)
The DNS2Go client can run as a background Windows Service:
- Open the client settings.
- Enable Run as Windows Service.
- The client will continue updating even when no users are logged in.
6. Firewall & Network Considerations
- Ensure outbound access for TCP & UDP Port 1227 is allowed
- If using a VPN, ensure DNS2Go is allowed to detect your true public IP.
Troubleshooting
- Client shows “Unable to Connect”: Check Internet and DNS2Go account credentials.
- Domain not updating: Confirm the correct domain is selected.
