Updating to the Latest Version of VisNetic MailFlow

This article explains how to update an existing VisNetic MailFlow installation to the latest available version using an in-place upgrade. The installer updates the current installation while preserving existing configuration, agents, message sources, and ticket data.

As with any software update, performing backups before proceeding is strongly recommended.

Before You Begin

Important: While the update process is designed to be non-destructive, having file system and database backups ensures the upgrade can be safely rolled back if needed.

Step 1: Download the Latest Installer

  1. Open a web browser on the VisNetic MailFlow server
  2. Navigate to: https://visnetic.com/download/index.html
  3. Download the latest VisNetic MailFlow installation file and save it locally

Step 2: Prepare the System for Upgrade

  1. Disable all Message Sources and Message Destinations from the MailFlow Administration interface
  2. Open the Windows Services management console
  3. Stop the VisNetic MailFlow Engine service
  4. Stop the World Wide Web Publishing Service (IIS)

Step 3: Back Up the Database

Perform a full backup of the VisNetic MailFlow database using SQL Server Management Studio.

Step 4: Back Up Program Files

Create backup copies of the following directories from the VisNetic MailFlow installation folder:

Step 5: Run the Installer

  1. Right-click the downloaded installer and select Run as Administrator
  2. Follow the installation prompts
  3. The installer will detect the existing VisNetic MailFlow installation
  4. Proceed with the upgrade when prompted

No uninstall is required. The installer performs an in-place update.

Step 6: Verify the Upgrade

  1. Start the VisNetic MailFlow services
  2. Log in to the MailFlow web interface as an Administrator
  3. Confirm the version number reflects the new release
  4. Verify agents, tickets, and message sources are present

Step 7: Re-enable Message Processing

  1. Re-enable Message Sources
  2. Re-enable Message Destinations
  3. Monitor the system to ensure normal mail flow resumes

Rollback Note

At any point before re-enabling Message Sources and Destinations, the upgrade can be undone by restoring the database backup and the backed-up \bin and \wwwroot directories.
