Configure Sangoma A101 T1/E1/J1 PRI with Netborder VOIP Gateway

Notes and Limitations:

  • Sangoma does NOT have fax capability. The current version of Netborder Express Gateway software does not provide FAX capabilities.
  • Netborder software only works on 32 bit Windows versions.
  • Netborder software will not work on machines which have an AMD processor

Follow the installation guide provided by Sangoma and install the latest Netborder Express.

Part 1: Setting up Sangoma configuration

  1. After installation, the web interface will display the quick setup main screen. Start this wizard and follow the instructions. Click on Next

Figure 1: Quick Setup Main Screen

  2. Click on Add Board to add your board

    Figure 2: Selection of board

  3. Select county board is located in
  4. Select whether you want T1 or E1. This depends on the location you are in and you need to ask your telco provider on the settings for each type.
This is an example of a T1 Configuration (America)

Figure 3: T1 configuration (depends on location and information provided by Telco)
This is an example of an E1 configuration (Europe)

Figure 4: E1 configuration (depends on location and information provided by Telco)
  5. Sip Configuration. The Sangoma is installed on the same machine as the pbx is installed so the default SIP address should be localhost:5060 or
The Default SIP port to listen on in this case is 5066. This is local to the localhost therefore make sure that 5066 is free and not used by anything else.
Default transport – Select UDP in this case.

  6. Click Finish and restart the gateway when prompted.
You should see the following screen

Figure 6: This shows Green Status - This means that ISDN signaling was successful

Figure 7: This shows 30 channels in I mode (Idle and ready for calls) This is a licensed version

Part 2 – Configuration of 3CX Phone System

  1. Go to PSTN gateway and click on Add PSTN gateway
  2. Type a name and select the Sangoma gateway from the list of supported gateways
  3. Confirm that gateway Hostname and IP are and that the port is 5066. This should match the configuration set in the Quick Setup section of the Sangoma. Select the appropriate ISDN type. We will choose E1 for this example.

  4. Click Next until you arrive to the Ports section.
Remove the Authentication password leaving this field blank.

  5. Configure an outbound rule and click Finish.
  6. In the final page you will see a button “Generate Config Button”, click on this and save the file renaming it as follows: routing-rules.xml
Note: It is important that the extension is changed to XML. The file has to have the exact naming convention as described above.
  7. This file needs to be replaced and put in the Sangoma Installed Path. Go to the installed path where you installed Netborder express on the machine: example:
C:\Program Files\Netborder\Express\Gateway\config and replace the file “routing-rules.xml” with the one just generated by 3CX.
  8. Now access http://localhost:7783 or go to Start/All programs/Netborder Express Gateway and click on Gateway Manager
  9. Click on Status and controls. You need to restart the Netborder Express gateway for the changes to take effect. Click on Stop Gateway. After you receive the confirmation message that the gateway is stopped, click on Start Gateway to start the gateway.
  10. The Gateway Controls page should look like this

Figure 10: Gateway After restart - Note that the Configuration is Synched

Note: at the bottom right of the screen there is an indicator stating “Configuration Synched”. This means that the configuration added to the gateway is synchronized and that the Gateway has reloaded all the configuration files (including routing-rules.xml).

Congratulations: You have successfully configured the Sangoma A101 ISDN gateway with 3CX. You can now configure MSN/DDI in 3CX to complete the configuration.
