Configuring VisNetic MailServer As A Gateway
Solution VisNetic MailServer

VisNetic MailServer can be configured to be a gateway to forward mail to another host. This will allow VisNetic MailServer to store mail in case your primary server goes down. As well, with added antivirus features, VisNetic MailServer can scan all messages for viruses allowing your primary server to skip this and process mail faster. The following are the steps to configure a gateway:

From the VisNetic MailServer configuration console:

  1. Create a new domain under Accounts
  2. Enter the Domain Name and Description
  3. Using the drop-down arrow select Backup Domain
  4. Enter the hostname or IP address of the Primary mail server in the To field.
  5. If your primary mail server is on the same machine as the Gateway MailServer, you need to specify the SMTP listening port. Enter the hostname or IP address of the Primary mail server in the To field followed by a :PORT# (Example 127.0.0.1:8025)
  6. Click Save

Now all incoming messages are going to get forwarded to the mail servers IP address that you specified. In the case that your server can be setup to collect mail via ETRN or ATRN, then instead of selecting Backup Domain you can select ETRN/ATRN. This provides a secure and fast connection.

If using the Web Admin, from the VisNetic MailServer Web Admin:

  1. Select the Accounts link
  2. Click New Domain
  3. Enter the Domain Name and Description
  4. Using the drop-down arrow select Backup Domain
  5. Enter the hostname or IP address of the Primary mail server in the To field.
  6. Click Add Domain to save the changes.
